19 people arrested, 25 FIRs registered in central Delhi high court

The Central Government on Wednesday told the Delhi High Court that 19 people have been arrested in connection with the violence during the farmers’ tractor parade in the capital on the Republic Day. .

Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma and Permanent Advocate of the Central Government Ajay Digpal told the High Court that 50 persons have been detained and the incident is being investigated. He informed that a large number of security forces were deployed in the Red Fort for security.

Realizing the information received from the government, Chief Justice D.N. Patel and Justice Jasmeet Singh’s bench sought to find out whether a similar application had been filed in the Supreme Court, pending trial or dismissed by the court.

The High Court, which listed the petition of Delhi resident Dhananjaya Jain, has asked the central government to provide the full details of any such case in the Supreme Court.

The petition demanded the removal of people protesting in the name of the farmer movement and the evacuation of all road and public places. It said the Delhi Police Commissioner should be promptly removed and punished for all the police officers who were not fulfilling their duty in connection with the Red Fort incident on the Republic Day.
