500 charging points to be built in 100 locations for electric vehicles in Delhi, AAP government unveils largest tender in the country

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has given a tender to build 100 EV charging stations to speed electric vehicles in the capital Delhi. Delhi Transco Ltd (DTL) has invited tenders to set up a charging station and this is the country’s largest tender for setting up a charging station, Delhi Energy Minister Satyender Jain said on Friday.

Satyendra Jain said there will be five points of charging at each station so that there will be a total of 500 points. He said charging stations would be built within a year.

The charging station will have at least 20 percent slower charger and 10 percent faster charger for all types of electric vehicles, he said. Most of these stations are at the Metro Station and the DTC Bus Depot.

The Delhi government implemented the electric vehicle policy in August last year. Under this, the target is to increase the share of electric vehicles to 25 percent of the city’s total registered vehicles.

More than 100 model electric vehicles have been approved for subsidy

Vehicles up to Rs 15 lakh are eligible for subsidy under the new electric vehicle policy. In addition there will be exemption in road tax and registration fee. The minister said the subsidy would come into effect from August 7, 2020, after being informed of the new policy. The road tax and registration fee waiver will apply from October 10 and October 15. He said that at every stage of the subsidy claim process, from merchants to the bank, buyers receive updates through SMS. Under the EV policy, the Delhi government will encourage two-wheelers, auto, e-rickshaws and freight carriers up to Rs 30,000 and Rs 1.5 lakh subsidy for the purchase of electric cars, officials said. He said the subsidy amount would be credited to the e-vehicle buyer’s account in three days.
