Biggest setback for BJP in Assam before election, alliance with major ally BPF Congress

The Bharatiya Janata Party has suffered a major setback before the Assembly elections in Assam. Ahead of the assembly elections in Assam, Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) president Hagrama Mohilair has announced his departure from the BJP alliance. He announced that the BPF of Assam will now contest the elections with the Congress. Its leader, Hagrama Mohilaire, has reported on social media that he has split from a BJP ally. The elections will be held in Assam from March 27 to April 6 in three stages.

Mahajat will join the alliance
In a social media post on Saturday evening, Mohiliire said the need for a stable government was essential for development, peace and unity. We want to end corruption. So the Bodoland People’s Front has decided to join the Mahajat Federation. Now we don’t want to have any kind of friendship with the BJP. We will fight with the Mahajat Alliance in the coming elections. BPF was formed in 2005. It has an influence in the Kokrajhar district. In the last election the party fought with the BJP and then won 12 seats in the 126-member assembly.

Congress expanded the alliance
The Congress had previously allied with the AIUDF. It had CPI, CPI (M), CPI (ML) and AGM. Now BPF and RJD have joined.

That’s what opinion polls say
The BJP government is once again seen in Assam in its opinion poll by news channel ABP and survey agency C-Voter. According to the poll, the BJP alliance is expected to get 42 per cent of the votes while the Congress alliance is likely to get 31 per cent of the votes. Others can go for 27 per cent of the votes. According to opinion polls, the BJP alliance could get between 68-76 seats. The Congress-led coalition is expected to secure 43-51 seats and the remaining 5-10 seats.
