Unmukt Chand, who championed Team India at the Under-19 World Cup in 2012, announced his retirement from Indian cricket at the age of 28. He’s playing for America now. After Virat Kohli, it was believed that in the future, he would emerge as the star player of Team India, but this Delhi batsman could not meet expectations. In the final of the Under-19 World, Unmukt had won a lot of acclaim for his 111-run century against Australia, and on this basis he was admitted to the IPL. However, the IPL proved to be a period of Unmukt’s career and he was clean bowled without opening an account on Brett Lee’s tremendous ball in his debut.
After Brett Lee bowled in the first match of IPL 2013, the Delhi player did not get much chance in the Indian Premier League and his name was missing. After the Under-19 World Cup final and debut in the IPL, Unmukt has not seen any major innings with the bat, on which he may return. Let me tell you that Unmukt did not represent India internationally. Unmukt played 67 first-class matches, in which he scored 3379 runs at 31.57. He has performed well in List A Cricket, where he has scored 4505 runs at an average of 41.33 in 120 matches. In T20, he has scored 1565 runs at an average of 22.35 in 77 games and has a strike rate of 116.09.
Announcing his retirement from Indian cricket, Unmukt said, “I don’t know how to feel because I honestly still figure it out.” The thought of not being able to represent my country again really makes my heart swell for a while. Personally, there have been some wonderful moments in my cricket journey in India. Winning the Under-19 World Cup for India was a big moment of my life. It is a special feeling to lift the cup as a captain and bring it to the country. I will always remember leading India A on several occasions and winning various bilateral and tri-series.
