During the Republic Day, when the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) table passes through Rajpath, there is ample opportunity for the audience to clap. This is due to the fact that CRPF personnel will be demonstrating tactics with the Night Vision Goggles (NVG) during the parade. These glasses are the same as those used by US Navy personnel in the campaign to eliminate Osama bin Laden.
CRPF sources said this was the first time that India’s largest central armed police force was displaying a combat gadget. These glasses are also known as ‘King of Night Vision’. The first table of CRPF commandos will be the center of attraction at this year’s Rajpath parade.
Specially equipped glasses allow commandos to look at 120 degrees at night, viewed with the naked eye. They are lightweight and can be worn on a helmet during night operation.
A senior CRPF official said, “Tonight glasses are used by various military forces, including US Navy personnel, with commandos able to spot targets even in the dark.” However, they claim that these are not the same glasses used by the US Navy SEL.
Former US SEALs Chief Special Warfare Director Matt Bissonnett described the scene in his “No Easy Day” book as “looking through toilet paper tubes.”
In addition to glasses, the CRPF is set to display a variety of equipment, such as gunshot detection systems and thermal vision of weapon mounts, during the Republic Day parade. .
