Delhi riots: High Court seeks response from Center and AAP government

The Delhi High Court has sought a response from the Center and the Delhi government in its plea seeking to increase the amount of compensation for the victims of communal violence in Northeast Delhi last year.

Justice Pratibha M Singh has issued a notice to the Center and Delhi Govt seeking to know their stand on the petition. The petition has been filed by some people who describe themselves as rioters.

The Delhi government has requested to increase the interim sum of Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh for the victims of communal violence.

At least 53 people have been killed and more than 200 injured in the violence. At the same time, government and private property have been severely damaged. Huge crowds blew up homes, shops, vehicles, petrol pumps and threw stones at local people and police personnel.
