Demand for MCD election without party symbol 2022, seeking response from High Court Center and Delhi government

The Delhi High Court on Friday demanded a response from the Center and the Delhi government demanding next year’s Delhi Metropolitan Elections without the political party’s electoral sign. The High Court has issued a notice to the Delhi state election officer in this regard and sought its response.

The order was filed on the basis of a petition filed by Chief Justice DN Patel, a bench of Justice Hargnan Singh Gehlot. He has appealed for the Delhi Metropolitan Election to be held in 2022 without the reserved election symbol of the political parties.

He said there was no provision for holding political parties based on the electoral code reserved under the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act. Attorney Gehlot had applied for this demand only last year, but at that time the High Court had asked the government and the state election commission to take appropriate decisions on the matter.

“Despite the directives of the High Court, neither the government nor the state election official has taken any appropriate action to hold the upcoming corporation election without a reserved election symbol,” Gehlot said in the petition.

He told the court that in the next election, only the name of the candidates and their image should be included instead of the election symbol. All parties have filed their reply before the next hearing of the case on April 13.
