Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan asked Delhi’s Lt Governor Anil Baijal to renovate the Hanuman Temple, which was demolished by corporation officials at Chandni Chowk in January on the orders of the Delhi High Court, saying that the religious sentiments of the local people were being affected. Harshvardhan is a Lok Sabha member of Chandni Chowk. He said many people, including businessmen, had approached him to rebuild the temple on the banks of the main Chandni Chowk.
The ancient Hanuman Temple at Kuchha Mahajani, Chandni Chowk, has been demolished in the wake of a court order for the beautification project of Chandni Chowk run by the Delhi Government’s Department of Public Works. On February 18, some unknown people placed Hanuman Steel Temple on the main Chandni Chowk.
I think the Union minister in his letter sent on January 21 has greatly hurt the religious feelings of the people. Locals have demanded that the temple be rebuilt near the old shrine. There is a transformer and there is a place to rebuild it.
However, PWD has lodged a complaint with the police regarding the construction of the steel, demanding that necessary action be taken, saying it is a major obstacle to the beautification process.
Do you know how the temporary Hanuman Temple at Chandni Chowk is removed?
Jai Prakash, mayor of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), said yesterday that a high-level meeting of Northern Corporation officials and senior BJP leaders had been held and it was decided that the Hanuman temple built at Chandni Chowk was valid. A motion will be made in the House to obtain status.
The meeting of the Northern Corporation House is scheduled for Thursday. Jai Prakash said the meeting had decided that a draft proposal would be brought in the coming home of the Northern corporation to give it a valid status and the work should be started. The mayor said, “But before the session, we would like to have a meeting with the other parties of the NDMC – Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party so that consensus can be drawn up.” Jai Prakash said on Sunday that the city will consider the ways in which the temporarily constructed Hanuman Temple in Chandni Chowk is being given a status.
