Elon Musk hints after Nitin Gadkari’s advice, Tesla could set up a unit in India

American Electric Vehicle (EV) company Tesla could set up a manufacturing plant in India. Tesla CEO Elon Musk suggested it. Let us tell you that Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari had advised Tesla to set up a plant in India. He explained the advantages of coming to India.

As Elon Musk said: Tesla CEO Elon Musk was asked on Twitter if the company had any plans locally. Answering this question, Elon Musk says that if the company succeeds with importing vehicles in India, then it may consider setting up a manufacturing plant. Musk said the current import duty in India is the highest in the world. He hoped the tariff would be a relief for electric vehicles, at least temporarily.

Elon Musk has said that if India adopts cleaner fuel vehicles such as diesel and petrol, both these vehicles will not meet its climate goals. Elon Musk hoped that India would provide at least temporary tariffs on electric vehicles. It’s a good move.

Currently, India imposes 100 per cent import duty on CIF (cost, insurance and freight) on a fully imported car valued at over 40 40,000. Import duty on low cost cars is 60 per cent.
