England beat Sri Lanka by 91 wickets by five wickets in the first ODI between Sri Lanka and England at Manchester’s Lee Street on Tuesday. After the win, host England took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. England won the toss and elected to field first and Sri Lanka scored 185 in 42.3 overs. England achieved the target by five wickets. Host Joe Root scored an unbeaten 79 off 87 balls with four boundaries. In addition, Johnny Bierstowe scored 43 and Moeen Ali 28. Chamira got three wickets, Binura Fernando and Chamika Karunaratne took one wicket each.
Before that Sri Lanka were bowled out for 185 runs. Captain Kusal Perera contributed 73 runs for the visiting team. Apart from them, Hasaranga scored 54 and Chamika Karunaratne scored 19 not out.
