Euro Cup 2020: Ukraine beat Northern Macedonia 2-1 in first win

Goals from Andrei Yarmollenko and Roman Yaremchuk defeated North Macedonia 2-1 in Ukraine on Thursday to record their first victory at the European Football Championships. Forward Yarmollenko scored in the 29th minute and Yaremchuk scored in the 34th minute. North Macedon Aare’s only goal came in the 57th minute by Ezjan Alioski.

Ukraine’s Yarmollenko and Yaremchuk scored a goal against the Netherlands in the first match of the Euro 2020 on Sunday, but the team lost 2-3. Yaremollenko Oleksandr Karavev scored a goal from the far corner of the net. Five minutes later Yarmollenko made a move from the right end, and Yaremchuk hit goalkeeper Stoll Dmitrivsky on his pass and doubled Ukraine’s lead.

Against the Netherlands, both players scored two goals in four minutes. Yarmollenko and Yaremchuk equaled the record of coach Andrei Shevchenko, who scored two goals for Ukraine in the European Championships. Shevchenko scored 2-1 against Sweden’s co-hosting Euro 2012. This is the only previous victory for Ukraine in this continental tournament. Aliyowski retreated through a penalty by goalkeeper Georgie Buschen and brought the ball to the goal. While Ukraine are three points behind in Group C, Northern Macedonia have yet to open their account and are in danger of being left out of the tournament.
