Government earnings on petrol and diesel have increased

The tax on petrol and diesel has been increased by 88 per cent in the financial year 2020-21, the Union minister said in a written reply to parliament on Monday. The excise duty on petrol has been increased to Rs 32.9 from Rs 19.98 last year. At the same time, in diesel it was increased from Rs 15.83 to Rs 31.80. 3.35 lakh from April 2020 to March 2021, following the increased excise duty. It came to the coffers of the government through petrol and diesel. However, the government in its first fiscal year had raised Rs 1.78 lakh crore through petrol and diesel. But in 2018-19, the government has raised Rs 2.13 lakh crore from petrol and diesel. ATF, crude oil and natural gas accounted for Rs 1.01 lakh crore during the period. As of July 1, the central government in Delhi charges 33.29% and the state government charges 23.07%.
