Team India middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer will play for England’s club Lancashire in the Royal London Cup for the 50-over format. Lancashire announced it on Monday. Iyer plays for Team India in a limited over format.
The club wrote on its official Twitter handle that “Lancashire Cricket 2021 is pleased to announce the signing of Indian international batsman Shreyas Iyer as a foreign player to the Royal London Club.” Shreyas Iyer, who has played 21 ODIs and 29 T20 Internationals for India, will arrive at Old Trafford on July 15 before the 50-over format begins. He will be with the team for group round matches for a month.

Iyer, ‘a respected name in Lancashire England cricket, has long been associated with Indian cricket. Farooq Engineer, Sourav Ganguly and VVS at Lancashire Club I am honored to continue the legacy of great players like Laxman. Lancashire Cricket Director Paul Allot has said Shreyas is one of the shining stars of the new generation of Indian batsmen.
“With this year’s ‘The Hundred’ tournament, we have decided to field a young team in the Royal London Cup,” he said. To increase our chances in the tournament, we needed to keep the international players in top order batting. Apart from international cricket, Shreyas also has the experience of being the captain of the IPL. Apart from Farooq’s engineer, Ganguly and Laxman, Murali Karthik and Dinesh Mongia also represented Lancashire.
