Former selector Dewang Gandhi says who will be their first choice in T20 international cricket between Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur

The Sri Lanka tour of India is an excellent opportunity to test the strength of the Indian cricket team’s bench in limited overs cricket. There have only been two matches in the tourney and some players have already started to improve their mark. Fast bowler Deepak Chahar is one of them. If Chahar has performed well for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), he has done wonders with the bat in the second match of the Sri Lanka tour. Chaher fell out of order and scored 69 off 82 balls to win the match and he also played the finisher. Prior to Chahar, Shardul Thakur had performed similarly in Australia tour. In terms of all-rounders, both players are equal. However, former India selector Dewang Gandhi has overtaken Deepak Chahar in T20 International cricket over Shardul.

Deepak Chahar’s father still regrets the issue, saying- If he did not make this mistake, his son would also sell crores in IPL

Speaking to The Telegraph, Gandhi said: ‘Death bowling is a concern, but they are trying to deal with it. They should focus on improving their skills, which is Deepak’s bowling. If he continues to bat well, it will definitely strengthen India’s lower order. However, Deepak is my first choice in T20 International cricket, especially when you compare Deepak and Shardul Thakur so they can swing the ball.

Kamran Akmal credited the batsman more than Deepak Chahar for India’s victory in the second ODI against Sri Lanka

Chaher considers himself an all-rounder than a bowler. That’s why he was nominated as an all-rounder at the 2018 IPL auction.
