Former selector Sarandeep Singh spoke out that selecting Bhubaneswar Kumar for England tour was a big mistake

Former selector Sarandeep Singh says India has made a big mistake by not selecting swing bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar for the England tour. Shardul Thakur was part of India’s 15-man squad for the World Test Championship (WTC) final, he said. India defeated New Zealand by 8 wickets in the WTC final. Shardul was not on the 15-man squad. Although conditions in Southampton were favorable for fast bowling after rain, he was not included in the playing XI as a fast bowling all-rounder.

Sarandeep’s tenure came to an end this year with India’s victory over Australia. “It is disappointing that Bhubaneswar has not been selected for the WTC Final and the five-Test series against England, starting from August 4,” he said. “Two days ago, when playing XI was selected, it would have been nice to have two spinners in it.

“You have chosen two spinners (Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja) because they can bat. Shardul is not the only fast bowler to bat. He is not in the 15-man squad. Referring to Bhubaneswar, who was hired as vice-captain of the team, Sarandeep said the team had to be automatically selected in the UK tour.

Rahul Dravid said all youngsters in Sri Lanka cannot be allowed to win series

He said, ‘It is a big mistake not to take Bhubaneswar to England. He is your best swing bowler and he is not even part of the team. “The time has come for Hardik Pandya to carve out a guy like Shardul as a fast bowling all-rounder because he is not fit to bowl in long formats,” he said You cannot rely on the Hardik. You never know when they’re going to bowl in all formats, so someone like Shardul has to be groomed or even Vijay Shankar or Shivam Dubey.

Sarandeep hopes Mohammed Siraj will get a regular chance in the five-match series against England. He said, ‘There will be rotation in this series. This is the right time for Siraj to let go and play as many matches as he can. He’s bowling really well. If there is a long gap, it may be difficult for him to bowl immediately with the right line and length. Former India spinner Sarandeep has agreed with India captain Virat Kohli, saying there is a need to show more emotion while batting amid cloud cover.
