Hyundai’s silver jubilee in India, from Santro to Creta, generates 90 lakh carts in 25 years

Hyundai, South Korea’s leading automaker, is celebrating its silver jubilee in the Indian market in its 25th year. Hyundai, which began its journey with Santro, has produced over 9 million cars in the market over the past two and a half decades. It includes hatchback, sedan and SUV cars.

Hyundai began its journey in India on 6 May 1996 with the inauguration of a manufacturing plant at Irungattukkottai in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. Production of the vehicle began at the plant from September 1998. The company introduced the Santro hatchback as its first car on the market here, and this small, affordable car is well-liked by consumers, strengthening its grip and becoming the second best-selling car in the country today.

Kabira Mobility has released two new electric bikes, which will cover 150km.

The company claims that the Santro Two i10 and i20 have also received good feedback from customers. At the same time, when the company launched its Creta SUV in the market, there was a huge increase in sales. In March last year, the company released the second-generation model of the Creta, after which Hyundai gained its highest market share of 17.4 percent in the CY2020.

Hyundai is also the largest SUV sales company in the country, despite being in giant markets like Tata Motors and Mahindra. Last year, the company sold 1,80,237 units of SUVs in the country. The company exports Indian-made vehicles to 88 countries, Hyundai exported 5 lakh cars in 2008, and then 6 million cars in 12 years.

However, over the past 25 years, many Hyundai mols have been disconnected from the market here, with the Hyundai Sonata and Ian being the main ones. The company currently sells sedan cars such as the Verna and Elantra, as well as the Santro, Grand i10 Neos, i20 hatchback cars, Creta and space SUVs. The company is set to launch the Micro SUV soon, which is nicknamed the AX.
