Returning to the Root Pavilion after dismissing Nadeem, Kohli came to him and praised his amazing innings with folded hands. The England captain also liked Kohli’s style and passed on a smile. Joe Root is the first captain to score 150 in three consecutive innings in Test cricket over the last 84 years. Prior to Root, Don Bradman achieved this position in 1937. Root also became the world’s first batsman to score a double century in his 100th Test match.

Root’s performance against Sri Lanka was also excellent and he scored a double century in the first Test. Thanks to Root’s innings, England have strengthened their hold on the match. Shahbaz Nadeem, who joined the squad after the departure of Axar Patel, failed to curb the run and England batsmen were playing him easily. At the same time, Ravichandran Ashnin and Washington Sundar have not yet appeared in rhythm. Apart from Root, Dominic Sibley scored 87 and Ben Stokes scored 82 for England.
