The second match of the five-match Test series between India and England is being played at Lord’s. The third day of the Test was entirely under the name of English captain Joe Root. Root, batting brilliantly, played 180 unbeaten innings and captured many big records. Root scored 150 for the 11th time in his Test career and became the first England batsman to achieve this feat. He became the second youngest batsman in the world to score 9000 runs in Test cricket. This is the 5th century in 2021 with the bat of England captain and he has reached 1,000 runs in Test cricket this year.
Joe Root equaled Alastair Cook, Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most centuries in Test matches in India and England. Root has now recorded seven centuries in Test matches between India and England. He scored 7 centuries in only 39 innings and left Sachin and Cook. In the 107th Test, Root finished his innings with the 113rd run of 9000 runs. He is the first Root to score 9000 runs from his debut Test. He has completed 9 thousand runs in 3167 days since his debut. Former England batsman Alastair Cook took 3380 days to complete a 980 Test run from his debut. Root has completed 9,000 runs at the age of 30 years and 227 years. Root became England’s first batsman to score 16,000 runs in international cricket.

On the third day of the Lord’s Test, Root, along with the rest of the batsmen, put pressure on Indian bowlers. He was joined by English captain Johnny Bairstow for 121 for the fourth wicket, and in the first session, not a single England wicket fell. After the dismissal of Bairstow, Root put England in a strong position by partnering with Jose Butler and Moeen Ali. However, Root was unable to complete his double and remained unbeaten on 180.
