Virat Kohli has broken Dhoni’s record of winning the most Test matches in his home ground with a third Test win. This is Team India’s 22nd win in home conditions under the leadership of Virat, while the Dhoni-led team has won 21 matches. While Kohli has been India’s captain in 29 Tests so far, Dhoni has led Team India in 30 matches. Kohli is already India’s most successful captain with 35 wins. Under Dhoni, India has won a total of 27 Tests. Next up are Sourav Ganguly (21 wins) and Mohammad Azharuddin (14 wins).

The match was played at Narendra Modi Stadium, where 30 wickets fell, of which 28 were taken by spin bowlers. With this win, India led 2–1 in the series.
