The inaugural match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 took place between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore in Chennai. Chasing 160, Royal Challengers won the Bangalore match by 2 wickets. RCB hit the target in the last delivery of the 20th over. AB de Villiers played a stellar 48 runs. RCB Glenn Maxwell scored 39 runs. At the same time, Virat Kohli scored 33 runs. Kohli’s wicket was taken by Jaspreet Bumrah. Jaspreet Bumrah and Marco Jensen took two wickets each for Mumbai Indians. Kohli and Vanshigatan came to the opening for RCB. The pair shared a 36-run partnership for the first wicket.
After losing the toss, Mumbai Indians scored 159 for eight against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Mumbai’s opener Chris Lynn has scored 49 runs. Bengaluru Harshal Patel scored 27 runs and took five wickets. No other bowler in IPL history has achieved this. In addition, Mohammad Siraj (22 from four overs) and Kyle Jameson (1 for 27) also bowled well.
Opener Chris Lynn and Suryakumar Yadav shared 70 runs for the second wicket. Lynn hit 49 off 35 balls. He hit four boundaries and three sixes in his innings. Suryakumar Yadav scored 31 off 23 balls. He hit four boundaries and a six in his innings. The RRB bowlers did not get any help from the fielders and put the batsmen under pressure. Mumbai Indians have scored just 25 runs in their last four overs. Patel took three wickets for just one run in the final over of the innings. Batting first after losing the toss, Mumbai made a comfortable start.
Skipper Rohit Sharma (19 off 15 balls) hit six sixes in his fourth over (41 in four overs) but was soon out of action when he was at loggerheads with Lynn. Suryakumar was dismissed by Kyle Jameson. He got Suryakumar caught by wicketkeeper AB de Villiers. Hardik Pandya (13 off 10 balls) could do nothing spectacular. Patel lbw him in fultas of lower legs. Patel then gave Ishaan Kishan (28 off 19 balls) to Kagbadha and Krunal Pandya (seven) and Kieran Pollard (seven) caught the boundary line. Marco Jensen did not allow Patel to be a hat-trick but bowled him on the next delivery.
