Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting described wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant as a winner and said that his thought process as captain was similar to Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson. In his debut as a captain in the IPL, the Delhi Capitals defeated the Chennai Super Kings, led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and Ponting believes he has great power. Pant may understand that people are raising questions about his wicket-keeping but Ponting believes he has shown great improvement in the series against England. Pant compared him to former teammate Adam Gilchrist, who said: “He’s amazing.” This type of batsman is always compared. “There is no doubt that Gill (Gilchrist) wicketkeeping was better than pint,” Ponting said.
He said, ‘The way I see them taking wickets in India (against England) when I turn the pitches, I think I’ve done better wicketkeeping than I thought. If his batting improves with his wicket-keeping, he could become India’s wicketkeeper in Test cricket for the next 10 to 12 years.
