JEE Main and NEET 2020 to be conducted as per the schedule: Supreme Court

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a petition seeking the postponement of the National Qualifying Entrance Examination (NEET) and the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) to be held in September 2020, after the National Institute of Testing had assured the court. Necessary precautions will be taken in view of the Kovid-19 epidemic. The Supreme Court further said that postponing the JEE Main and NEET UG exam would endanger students’ career. The SC bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra listened to the appeal.

The solicitor general has filed a document stating that inspections will be conducted with adequate precautions, the court said. The SC further clarified that students’ careers cannot be endangered for too long.

On August 6, 2020, Attorney Alok Alok Srivastava filed this appeal on behalf of 11 students from 11 states. The petitioner requested the court to direct the Center to conduct the JEE and NEET examinations only after normalcy has been restored in the country.

The National Testing Institute has decided to conduct engineering and medical entrance exams in September. According to a notice issued by the NTA on July 3, the NEET UG test will be conducted on September 13, and the JEE main will begin on September 1 and conclude by 6, 2020.

The NTA is expected to issue an admission card for the NEET-UG and JEE Main through its official website.
