A delegation of opposition parties met with President Ram Nath Kovind on December 9 to voice their concerns about the Center’s three new agricultural laws and to force it to withdraw. The delegation includes Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, DMK representative, CPI general secretary D Raja and CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury.
All the parties in the delegation that met the President on agrarian laws, supported the Bharat Bandh. In fact, the BPP has targeted NCP chief Sharad Pawar, saying that Sharad Pawar, the agriculture minister in the UPA government, has asked the states to amend the APMC Act. Pawar warned the states that if the reforms were not carried out, the center would not be financed. But now Pawar is protesting.

What matters
In September, the government passed all three agrarian laws as a major reform in agriculture. The government says the role of the intermediary will end after these laws and farmers will be allowed to sell their products anywhere in the country. At the same time, farmers are demanding the repeal of all three agricultural laws. Farmers say the laws have been enacted to benefit the industry and eliminate the knee and minimum support price (MSP) system.
