Mahindra & Mahindra, the country’s leading automaker, unveiled the next-generation model of its popular SUV Mahindra Thar in October. While this SUV has long been popular with young people, there was a different craze about its new model. According to media reports, the waiting period of this SUV has reached almost 1 year in some cities of the country.
To date, the company has registered bookings for more than 50,000 units. Mahindra has also increased production due to heavy demand and shipped 12,744 units as of March. But due to the large gap between demand and supply, its wait has increased significantly.
According to a report published in Garwadi, dealers in some cities have reported that the waiting period of the new Mahindra Thar has reached a year. At the same time, the company’s plant in Nashik was also affected due to locks in Maharashtra. It is believed that the waiting period will increase in this situation.
Why wait is increasing: If high demand leads to increased waiting times, on the other hand, because the semiconductor supply is low, this SUV is not reaching people easily. In fact, because of this semiconductor, many vehicles are standing at the dealership because they cannot deliver without the 7.0-inch infotainment system. Some media reports say the semiconductor shortage will continue until 2022.
Mahindra Thor is available in the market with two engine options. In one of its variants, the company uses a 2.0-liter capacity petrol engine, while the other version has a 2.2-liter turbo diesel engine. Its petrol engine produces 150 ps of power while the diesel engine produces 130 ps of power. These engines come with a 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox. The price of this SUV is Rs 12.10 lakh to Rs 14.15 lakh.
