Maruti Bresa to return in diesel engine, Ertiga and XL6 also make a comeback

The country’s largest job maker Maruti Suzuki will also make a comeback in the diesel car segment. The company will be bringing its models Breza, Ertiga and XL6 in diesel engines. The Maruti Suzuki diesel engine was discontinued in April 2020 after the BS6 emissions standard came into effect. According to the report, the company is working on a BS6 compliant 1.5 liter DDS engine, considering the market demand. Earlier this engine was coming in BS4 format.

According to a report by The Hindu Business Line, the Maruti Suzuki XL6 was the first car to come with a BS6 diesel engine. It could be launched before the Auto Expo 2022 in February next year. After that the company will launch Vitara Breza and Ertiga in diesel engine. Bresa’s popular sub-compact SUV and Ertiga MPV car.

The report said Breza diesel could be brought to the 2022 Auto Expo and Ertiga diesel by mid-2022. Diesel variants cost around Rs 60,000 to Rs 1 lakh more than their petrol variants. Maruti Suzuki’s new diesel engine can also be offered in upcoming vehicles in partnership with Toyota.

Maruti diesel engine power
The new diesel engine will be manufactured at the company’s plant in Manesar (Haryana). Specifications of the 1.5-liter DDS engine have not yet been revealed. Tell us that the BS4 1.5 liter DDS diesel engine coming from Ertiga and Ciaz produces 104 hp of power and 225 Nm of torque. It is believed that the same power can be found in the BS6 diesel engine. To increase mileage, the company may also introduce a mild hybrid system.
