In the first match of the five-match T20 series between Australia and New Zealand, New Zealand performed superbly and defeated Australia by 53 runs. Batting first, New Zealand scored 184 overs, losing 5 wickets in 20 overs, thanks to Devon Conway’s 99-run innings. In response, the Kangaroo team chased the target and scored 131 in 17.3 overs. Ish Sodhi took four wickets while bowling.

Chasing a target of 185, Australia started off badly and the team lost their first four wickets by scoring just 19 runs. Captain Aaron Finch (1), Matthew Wade (12) and Josh Philip (2) failed to score much. Mitchell Marsh (45) held one end, but Glenn Maxwell (1) and Marcus Stoinis (8) were unable to support them. On behalf of the Kiwi team, Trent Boult and Tim Southee gave the kangaroo a start and both took four wickets. After this, Ish Sodhi bowled well, giving the Australian batsmen a pavilion of just 28 runs in their four overs.

New Zealand also started batting first and openers Guptill (0) and Tim Seifert (1) both scored just 11 runs. Captain Kane Williamson also had nothing to do with the bat and scored 12 and fell victim to Daniel Sams. However, Conway scored consistently from one end. He scored an unbeaten 99 off just 59 balls with 10 fours and three sixes. In the last over, James Neesham led the way with a brilliant innings of 15 balls and 26 runs.
