NZvsPAK: Kyle Jamison’s ‘Paw’, Pakistan scored 297 in the first innings

Amid the damage of fast bowler Kyle Jamison, the rain-affected Pakistan scored 297 in their first innings on the first day of the second Test against New Zealand, with 93 from veteran Azhar Ali. Playing his sixth Test match, Jamieson troubled the batsmen with extra bounce and movement and took five wickets for 69 runs. After New Zealand’s first fielding decision after winning the toss, Jamieson took three wickets in three overs in the morning session and reduced Pakistan to 83 for four.

Azhar and skipper Mohammad Rizwan (61) then put on 88 for the fifth wicket. Jamieson picked up his fourth wicket by dismissing Rizwan in the second session, while Fahim Ashraf (48) took five or more wickets in his third innings in the last session. Azhar Ali batted very well but missed his 18th century. Shaun Masood (0) was run out in the third over by Tim Southee, then Azhar came to the crease to build the innings and score his 32nd half century.

He added 62 runs for the second wicket with Abidar Abid Ali (25) but was damaged after Jamieson. He dismissed Abid at Innswinger and then sent Harris Sohail (one) and Fawad Alam (two) to the pavilion. After Lunch the game started late due to rain. After a while, it rained again, stopping the game for 40 minutes. At the start of the game, Rizwan adopted an aggressive attitude and scored 18 from three overs for Trent Boult.

Rizwan soon completed the sixth and fifth fifties of his career but Jamieson’s best ball took the edge of his bat and went to the gloves of wicketkeeper BJ Watling. His 71 balls included 11 boundaries. Fahim also made four saves when Ross Taylor missed a catch when he slipped from Matt Henry. Taylor made no mistake of catching an ajar from the same bowler. Azhar played 172 balls in his innings and hit 12 boundaries.

Taylor then grabbed Fahim by a Jamieson delivery. Pakistan scored 300 runs in their first Test thanks to Jaffer Gohar’s 34. The first day’s play was announced as soon as Pakistan’s innings were over. For New Zealand, except for Jamieson, Southee and Bolt each took two wickets, while Henry took one. New Zealand won the first Test by 101 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
