Rahul Dravid, who has been named India’s head coach for the tour of Sri Lanka, said on Sunday that all youngsters selected for the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka will not be allowed to play. Young players want to impress the selectors with their performance at this year’s T20 World Cup. Dravid is returning as coach in the series. Dravid feels that this short tour cannot wait for everyone. The less experienced team will tour Sri Lanka under the leadership of Shikhar Dhawan. Six of these players never played an international match.
Dravid, the head of the National Cricket Academy, told the press before the team’s departure: ‘I think it is unrealistic to expect everyone to be allowed on this short tour, which includes three T20 matches and three one-day matches. There will also be selectors. Ishaan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson have been included in the T20 squad for this year’s World Cup. The series against Sri Lanka will begin with the ODI series from July 13 and the T20s from July 21.
