Diego Maradona, former captain and coach of the Argentine football team, died of a heart attack at the age of 60 on Wednesday. The sports world pays homage to Maradona. Several legendary figures including Sourav Ganguly, President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), have paid tribute to him through social media. Maradona has been counted among the greatest footballers of all time, along with former Brazil captain Pele. Maradona underwent brain surgery two weeks ago and was discharged from the hospital a few days ago.

“My hero is no other … my mad talent. Your soul can rest in peace … I have watched football for you,” Ganguly wrote on Twitter. In 2017, Ganguly played in a charity match with Kolkata’s Maradona. All India Football Federation President Praful Patel described Maradona as a valuable person. He said Maradona was turning the ball around with his legs like a wizard. Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar wrote on Twitter, ‘The world of football and sports has lost a great player. Let your soul rest in Diego Maradona. You will live in the memories. ‘
