Shivraj Singh Chauhan said Bhopal should be a memorial to the gas tragedy

Today, 36 years have passed since the Bhopal gas disaster of 3 December 1984. Thousands lost their lives in this horrific accident and many became disabled. Today, on the 36th anniversary of the Bhopal gas tragedy, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said that we know how the lives of the gas-affected brothers and sisters remain. My widowed sisters, who were all tragedy, will be reintroduced to their 1000 pension, which was frozen in 2019 so that their last time would not be subject to such crises.

Moreover, we should soon build a Bhopal gas tragedy memorial in Bhopal, so this monument provides a lesson to the world, reminding us that no city can become Bhopal. We cannot create anything out of insecurity that is heavy on humans. Hiroshima and Nagasaki teach people not to use atomic bombs.

How did the accident happen?

The incident on December 3 was the largest industrial accident in history. The Union Carbide factory’s 610 number tank contains a hazardous methyl isocyanate chemical. The water reached the tank. Temperatures reached 200 degrees. The safety valve of the tank was blown away by the noise. 42 tons of toxic gas leaked at the time. According to government statistics, 3,787 people died. According to government statistics, about 5,58,125 people suffer from gas. Of these, about 4,000 were permanently disabled due to gas, while 38,478 suffered from respiratory problems.
