Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka has been named captain of the limited-overs series against India. Dasun Shanaka is set to appoint Kusul Perera as Sri Lanka’s captain ahead of the ODI and T20I series between India and Sri Lanka starting on July 13.
According to a report in ESPNcrinfo, Sri Lanka Cricket has decided to hand over the captaincy to Shanaka, the first player to sign the contract. 29-year-old Dasun Shanaka is an aggressive batsman and fast bowler. Sri Lanka will become the sixth captain in the last four years. Sri Lanka has captained Dinesh Chandimal, Angelo Mathews, Lasith Malinga, Dimuth Karunaratne and Perera since early 2018. Shanaka captained the three-match T20I series against Pakistan in 2019, in which his team had a clean sweep.

In the absence of senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, it is noteworthy that Shikhar Dhawan has been made India’s captain for the series against Sri Lanka. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been made vice-captain of the team. Rahul Dravid has come in as the head coach of India in this series against Sri Lanka. Several young players have been given the opportunity, including Devadut Padikkal, Rituraj Gaikavad.
