India and Sri Lanka will play three one-day and T20 series equal numbers starting from July 13. Team India’s middle-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav has also been included in the team’s tour of Sri Lanka. He has responded to the controversial statement made by former Sri Lankan World Cup winning captain Arjuna Ranatunga about Team India. Ranatunga recently said that the BCCI had sent its B team to Sri Lanka, which was, in a way, an insult to Sri Lankan cricket. Suryakumar said the players were not paying attention to it and that they were only here to enjoy the series.

At a virtual press conference in Colombo on Tuesday, Suryakumar was asked what to say in his statement to Arjuna Ranatunga, who said, ‘We have not talked about this. At the moment, we are all focused on the ODI and T20 series. The way our practice session is going and the way we played yesterday, everything is going according to our plan. We are not thinking of him (Rantunga’s statement). We came here to have fun, enjoy the series and come back with lots of positive things from here.

Following the controversial statement by Ranatunga, the statement came from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), in which India said it had sent its 20-man squad for a limited over series. Since there are 14 players who have played for their country in all three formats, this is not a second-class team. Following the statement of the former Sri Lankan captain, former Indian cricketer Akash Chopra and former Pakistani leg-spinner Danish Kaneria also appeared.
