Rising petrol prices in the country have raised everyone’s concerns. With the increasing burden on the pocket, people are turning to cars that are moving on other fuels instead of petrol and diesel. However, the country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki is set to release a new CNG variant of its best-selling sedan Maruti Dzire.
Recently, CNG variants of Maruti Dzire have been identified during testing. Remember, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) discontinued its 1.3-liter DDS diesel engine (sourced from Fiat) on April 1, 2020, before BSVI emissions standards came into effect. The company now only sells petrol and CNG cars, so the effect of lower engine options has been on vehicle sales.
Maruti Suzuki is now looking to strengthen its S-CNG portfolio. The company has six models on its CNG cars list, including the Ertiga, Alto, Celerio, WagonR, S-Presto and Eco Van. Total sales of S-CNG cars crossed three lakh units in September 2020 and over 1.57 lakh CNG vehicles in FY2020-21, the highest in the financial year.
Currently, the S-CNG team includes models such as the Alto, Wagon R, Eco, S-Presto, Tour S, Ertiga, Super Carry and Celerio, and new models will also be added in the coming days. Maruti Suzuki believes that alternative energy technology is the key to future improvement. Exactly a year ago, the company announced that it had crossed the one million sales point for single CNG-powered vehicles.
The test kit can be clearly seen in the Maruti Dzire CNG model. It is installed from the roof roof to the rear of the car. Maruti Suzuki’s S-CNG vehicles have dual interdependent ECUs. This is a fantastic technology, given the micro switch, which stops the vehicle during the CNG filling process and does not allow it to start. This is very important in terms of safety. In addition, a change-over switch is also provided, so that the driver can change fuel quickly.
