According to a report by the election analysis agency ADR (Association for Democratic Reforms), the number of registered non-accredited political parties to the country doubled in 2019 compared to 2010. Those political parties are regarded as unidentified parties, who have recently been registered, or who have not received a sufficient percentage of votes in the assembly or general elections to become a state-level party, or have held elections since. In 2010, the number of such political parties was 1,112, and by 2019, it had risen to 2,301.

Between 2018 and 2019, this number increased to 9.8 percent, but between 2013 and 2014 it increased by 18 percent. Registered unidentified political parties analyzed in the report announced 6,860 donations of Rs 65.45 crore in fiscal year 2018-19 and Rs 6,138 donations of Rs 24.6 crore in fiscal 2017-18. Of the 138 parties involved in the analysis, more than 50 per cent of donations were not publicly available in any of the above financial years, the report said. As of March 2019, 653 or 28.38 percent of the total 2,301 registered unrecognized political parties were from Uttar Pradesh. This was followed by 291 or 12.65 per cent of the parties from Delhi and 184 or eight per cent from Tamil Nadu.
