The right of the Chinese president – the country won the whole war against poverty

Chinese President Xi Jinping announced Thursday that China has completely won the fight against poverty by improving the economic quality of more than 77 million people over the past four decades. It was a ‘miracle’ by the country, he said. Speaking at the event organized here on the country’s achievement in poverty alleviation, Xi declared that poverty has been eradicated from the world’s most populous country. China’s population is about 1.4 billion. He said no country has succeeded in getting millions out of poverty in such a short time.

Xi said all poor people living in rural areas have been lifted out of poverty and that China has achieved the United Nations’ goal of poverty alleviation 10 years before the 2030 deadline. He said the last 9.899 crore poor people living in rural areas have been driven out of poverty in the last eight years. All 832 poorer counties and 128000 poorer villages are off the poverty list.

From reforms introduced in the late 1970s to the current Chinese poverty line, 77 million poor people have been lifted from poverty, Xi said. China contributed more than 70 percent of global poverty reduction during this period, he said. With these achievements, China has performed miracles that will be recorded in the pages of history, Xi said.

He took office at the end of 2012 and at that time he said his main goal was to eradicate poverty altogether. There were about 100 million poor people in China at the time. According to the World Bank’s International Poverty Line, the Chinese president has said that the share of Chinese people fleeing poverty has increased by more than 70 per cent of global figures over the past 40 years.

Their claim to alleviate poverty comes before the centenary celebrations of the Communist Party of China (CPC) this year. By the middle of this year, China is likely to declare the country a prosperous society in all respects.
