Twitter has shut down 500 accounts following violence during a tractor parade on the Republic Day in the capital, Delhi. Twitter reported that they were found to have violated the platform’s rules and that the move was made on Wednesday. A Twitter spokesperson told ANI that Twitter appeared to violate the rules.
“We have taken drastic measures to protect the service from dialogue that seeks to incite violence, abuse and intimidation. Twitter has worked extensively on using technology and human reviews. And hundreds of accounts and tweets that violate Twitter’s rules of action. 550 accounts suspended for handling spam and platforms have been suspended.
The microblogging platform claims to have placed labels on tweets that appear to violate the media policy. “We are sensitive to the situation and are cautious and encourage people to report if anything is found contrary to the rules,” the spokesman said.
On Tuesday, farmers broke barricades along the Delhi border and entered the capital and vandalized the site. Farmers received permission from the Delhi Police for a peaceful tractor rally on January 26 on the Republic Day, but conditions were not considered. More than 300 policemen were injured in the violence. Delhi Police has registered two dozen FIRs and seized more than 200 people.
