United Kisan Morcha convened a meeting to discuss violence in the tractor parade

United Kisan Morcha (Sanyukta Kisan Morcha), a peasant organization protesting against new agricultural laws, convened Wednesday afternoon to discuss the violence during the farmers’ tractor parade in Delhi on the Republic Day.

Prior to the Morcha meeting, representatives of 32 Punjab agencies were also meeting at the Singhu border. The Singh border has been a major center of peasant protest for the past two months. The United Front meeting will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 3 pm and all aspects of violence will be discussed during the Tractor Parade in Delhi, a senior farmer leader said. Samyukta Kisan Morcha is the highest unit of 41 farmer organizations, holding demonstrations at the Delhi border against agrarian laws.

In the aftermath of the violence during Tuesday’s tractor parade in Delhi, United Kisan Morcha canceled the march and appealed to all those involved to return to their respective protest sites immediately.

22 FIRs were registered and over 300 police were injured

Delhi Police has registered 22 FIRs in connection with the violence that took place during the tractor parade in many parts of Delhi. More than 300 policemen were injured during this period. Kisan Morcha shied away from the perpetrators of violence during the tractor parade, alleging that some anti-social elements entered the protest or else the protest was peaceful.

Thousands of farmers staged a tractor parade Tuesday in support of the demand for repeal of three new agricultural laws by farmers’ organizations. During this time, protesters broke police barricades, clashed with police, robbed vehicles and even put a religious flag on the Red Fort.
