UP panchayat election: Notification will be released today, Election Commission is preparing

Uttar Pradesh Panchayat Election Notification can be given any day in the second week of March. The Election Commission has started its preparation. In the wake of the High Court’s directive to hold three phase panchayat elections by April 30, the commission is set to complete the entire electoral process in 42 to 45 days. The reservation of seats for the state government is to be completed by March 17, according to the High Court order.

Notably, the Allahabad High Court rejected the Commission’s demand for an election by May 2021. The divisional bench of Justices MN Bhandari and RR Aggarwal, while dismissing Vinod Upadhyaya’s petition, ordered the election to be held by April 30. The Commission must therefore complete the election process in 42 to 45 days. Sources said the notification is set to be issued on March 18. In order to complete the process on time, the Commission is contemplating simultaneous voting for Gram Panchayat member, constituency panchayat member and district panchayat member. Elections are also being considered in four stages. At these stages, the election will be held by dividing the districts of the state’s 18 boards, or if there are four different areas within each district and if there is an election.

Delay caused by corona
The three-phase panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh had to be held before December 28 last year but it was delayed due to coronation but after the High Court order on Thursday, there was no further delay. The commission must complete the election process by April 30. Following the high court’s decision on the panchayat elections, the state Election Commission’s additional electoral commissioner, Veda Prakash Verma, said the commission was ready to conduct the elections within the stipulated time frame. Given the details of the preparations, the voter list has been published, he said. 52.50 crore ballots and 90 thousand ballots have been sent to districts. Removable ink is also ordered. So, now there is no reason for the delay.
