Rahul Dravid, India’s greatest batsman, said: “Data (statistics) that help players select and strategize on cricket should encourage good competition.” At the 15th MIT Sloan Sports Analysis Conference, Dravid said, “In cricket, like baseball, data has a special place, but over the past 15 years, instead of comparing averages, we have been using it in strategy and player choice.”
Virat Kohli said how the team will benefit by opening IPL 2021:
The subject of cricket’s first discussion at the MIT conference, ‘Howdata: How Analysis Is Revolving Cricket’ (How Cricket is Revolutionizing in Statistical Analysis), spoke about the use of statistics to improve cricket. Former India coach and former South African batsman Gary Kirsten and former England cricketer and current host Isha Guha were also present. Its director is Alok Singh, director of Dell Technology.
MI vs. RCB: Kieran Pollard’s eye on these two big records
“The day when people stop taking two is not far off, because the adjustment says they can hit a six over the next two or three balls,” Dravid said. However, he said data should be used for better competition between the ball and the bat, rather than just hitting boundaries and sixes. Guha said every ball is important with the advent of T20 cricket. He said young players can now better use the technology to understand the profile of opposing players and devise a strategy against them.
