Former India batsman and coach WV Raman has said that the Mumbai boy should be given plenty of chances to make an comeback, with captain Shikhar Dhawan in the upcoming limited overs series against Sri Lanka. Shah was dropped from the team due to poor performances in the first Test in Adelaide, but later returned to the national team with plenty of runs in the domestic one-day tournament.

Raman told PTI on Friday, ‘I think you will definitely see Shikhar (Dhawan) open the innings, first because he is the captain and secondly you can see Prithvi Shah with him because he has played for the country before and he has done well. “Because they’re young and have a lot of talent, you have to try to give them as many opportunities as possible to come back to the farm,” he said.

Raman is affiliated with the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and has seen the rise of junior cricketers, after which he was appointed as the head coach of the women’s team, a position he recently decided to step down. Apart from Dhawan and Shah, India have other starters like Devadut Padikkal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, but Raman feels Shah will play for India first. Raman said, “Yes, you have a lot of talented (Devadat) Padikkal and others, but with experience in national cricket, I think I prefer Prithvi Shah over others, as it always is.”
