India captain Virat Kohli hopes to open the innings in the T20, but former selector Sharanip Singh believes India should go with veteran opener Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Sarradeep’s tenure came to an end after India’s historic victory over Australia earlier this year. He gave his opinion on different leaders for different forms. However, it was not discussed during his tenure as Kohli is doing well in all three of these formats, he said.
After the T20 series against England, Kohli has said that the innings will begin in the Indian Premier League (IPL), so that he and Rohit Sharma could land as openers in the World Cup. Dhawan was dropped after the first match of the series. Kohli and Rohit started the innings in the last T20. Sarandeep told PTI, ‘It’s amazing. He (Dhawan) did well in the IPL, he did well in Australia. He performs well whenever he plays. He is very strong mentally. He may want to try some options, but I believe the combination of Rohit and Dhawan’s right-hand and left-handed batsmen is the best option for India at the World Cup.

He said, ‘You can’t judge based on match. He then performed well in ODIs. The role of the IPL will be crucial in determining the team. Getting a spot on the team is not easy. Ishaan Kishan also has to perform unparalleled to earn a place in the team. “If Hardik Pandya does not bowl, then Krunal will have no place in the ODI team,” he said. He said, ‘If we talk about One Day Internationals, if not for Hardik bowling, Krunal may not be your fifth bowler. He batted well but Krunal cannot bowl 10 overs.
“He is a good T20 player but when it comes to ODIs, he doesn’t have the skills to challenge batsmen,” he said. He said the issue of separate leaders for different forms was not even discussed during his tenure. He said, ‘You need different captains when your captain is not doing well but he (Kohli) is the only player who is above average in all formats. If they don’t perform well in any one format, you can reduce the weight of leadership from them.
