The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) may host a practice match for the visiting Indian team at the end of this month. If all goes well, this three-day match with select County XI will be played from July 20 to 22. The decision was taken at the request of the Board of Management of India and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for a warm-up match before the five-Test series against England.

The management of the Indian team is happy with the arrangement as the request is late, so it is only for one match. A source close to the Indian team said, “We got what we wanted. We can understand that it is difficult to hold practice matches at this stage. The Indian camp also understands the dilemmas faced by the ECB. In fact the Board of England is launching ‘The Hundred’ on July 21st. As a result, England and most county players are expected to join the new white ball tournament with the respective franchises.

After losing to New Zealand in the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) last month, the Indian team’s administration felt the need for a warm-up match. Currently, Indian players are on hiatus. They will be assembled in Durham for a training camp ahead of the Test series on July 14. The first Test will begin on August 4 at Nottingham’s Trent Bridge. Meanwhile, it has come to light that Shubman Gill, who is suffering from a calf injury, has no immediate replacement.
