It has become a law in Uttar Pradesh following the endorsement of the supreme injunction recently brought against “Love Jihad”. On the other hand, many voices have been raised against this law. Madan Lokur, a former Supreme Court judge, is among those who oppose it. Lokur said the law was against freedom of choice.
In a lecture on Sunday, Lokur said, ‘The recently passed supreme ordinance in Uttar Pradesh is unfortunate, in that it is said to be forced to marry, fraud or fraudulent conversion. This is because it neglects the freedom to choose the supreme commandments, dignity and human rights.
These laws against conversational marriages are a violation of the law developed by the Supreme Court to protect the freedom and dignity of the individual’s choice, he said.
In political debates, only the case of Love Jihad is considered an illegal conversion, and if convicted in such a case, the sentence is 5 to 10 years.
Recently, the High Court, in its judgment, declared that conversion to marriage was just illegal. Hearing the pleas of Priyanshi alias Samreen and others, the High Court has said that changing religion for marriage is not acceptable. The conversion of religion to marriage is not necessary. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had announced that the government would implement effective law after the decision. By this law, the government strictly regards people who play with sister females by concealing their name, identity and their religion.
