Indian Ape Coo is benefiting from the ongoing controversy between the Government of India and the microblogging platform Twitter. There has been a sudden increase in usage of this app. Co-op co-founder Mayank Bidawatka told ET that app downloads and platform engagement have increased nearly fivefold. He said this has been going on for the past 3 days. Ku has about 6 million users. Ku said last week that he had enacted the new rules and that its privacy policy, terms of use and community guidelines are now in compliance with the new rules.

Quarrel with government and social media applications
Explain that the Government of India has instructed social media platforms to comply with the new IT rules by May 26. The new rules were announced on 25 February. Under the new rule, larger social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp (with over 5 million users in the country) are required to take additional steps. This includes the appointment of Chief Compliance Officer, Nodal Officer and India-based grievance officer.

Twitter has agreed to follow the rules. Twitter is seeking a 3-month postponement from the government over the toolkit controversy and the new rule. “At the moment, there are recent incidents in India concerning our employees and the threat to our users’ freedom of expression,” Twitter said. At the same time, Kuo Aap is taking advantage of the controversy between the government and Twitter.

Coo op has raised Rs 218 crore
Kuo recently raised 30 million (about Rs 218 crore) under the leadership of Tiger Global. Existing investors Excel Partners, Kalari Capital, Bloom Ventures and Dream Incubator also participated in the fund, Koo said in a statement. In addition, the IIFL and Mire assets have emerged as new investors. This investment is made at a time when the implementation of the new IT rules in the country has increased accountability for social media companies including Twitter and Facebook.
