4. Why is this day celebrated
The Pakistani army attacked our airspace and borders on December 3, 1971. In retaliation, India launched ‘Operation Trident’. The 1971 war also began. India then targeted the Pakistan Navy’s Karachi headquarters. The attack was so terrible that the port of Karachi was completely destroyed and a fiery fire for seven days. This invasion of India broke the back of the Pakistan Army. Indian Navy Day is celebrated on the 4th of December every year to commemorate the strength and valor of the Indian Navy who succeeded in this war.

5. The attack carried out by the Indian Navy consisted of 3 electric class missile boats, 2 anti-submarines and a tanker. This was the first time in this war an anti-ship missile was attacked. Many Pakistani ships were destroyed in the attack. Pakistani oil tankers were also destroyed during this time.

6. The Indian Navy was founded in 1612. The East India Company formed an army in the form of the East India Company’s Marine to protect its ships. By 1686 British trade had completely shifted to Bombay. The team was later renamed Bombay Marine by the East India Marine. The Bombay Navy participated in the Maratha, Sindhi War and Burma War in 1824.
