Amid the peasant movement against agrarian laws, Congress has begun to strengthen its penetration among the peasantry. The party is organizing a Kisan rally in various states in support of the peasant movement. All the big leaders of the party, including former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, are attending the Kisan meetings.
Rahul Gandhi will address Kisan meetings in Rupangah on Saturday and Sursura in Ajmer district of Rajasthan. Simultaneously, the party’s general secretary and Uttar Pradesh incumbent Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will join the Kisan Panchayat in Saharanpur on Tuesday. The party, which will run for ten days under Jai Jawan and Jai Kisan Abhiyan, will host programs in several districts of the state.
The Congress is keeping an eye on the western Uttar Pradesh under the Jai Jawan-Jai Kisan campaign. There is resentment among the farmers of the western Uttar Pradesh regarding agricultural laws. The BJP performed well in Western UP in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha and previous Assembly elections. Therefore, the political parties are trying to strengthen the discontent over agrarian laws.
RLD leader Jayant Chaudhary united with the farmers
National Vice-President Jayant Chaudhary is already addressing farmers from different districts of the western Uttar Pradesh. Rakesh Tikite, who is campaigning against agrarian laws, spoke and supported him. Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is also trying to strengthen the party’s position by making Kisan panchayat. This could give the party some space to revive the western Uttar Pradesh. There are elections in UP 2022. In such a situation, the dissatisfaction of the peasantry could be a political loss for the BJP.
