New Delhi: 4G internet facility is being restored in Jammu and Kashmir after 18 months, this ban was imposed after the removal of Article 370. On August 5, 2019, after the removal of Article 370 granting special state status to Jammu and Kashmir, 4G internet was banned. It was considered the world’s largest internet shutdown. A senior government official gave this information on Friday. Jammu and Kashmir administration spokesman Rohit Kansal said that Internet service is being restored in the entire Jammu and Kashmir.

At the time of the ban on 4G internet, it was said that it has been banned due to the fear of any kind of protest against the abolition of special status of Jammu and Kashmir. After the removal of Article 370, Jammu and Kashmir was divided into two parts. Two union territories Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh were created. Then several big leaders including three former chief ministers Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti were taken into custody.

The administration had said that mobile internet services were put in place to spread misinformation and misuse of the network by terrorists. However, critics say thousands of jobs were lost due to the ban on the Internet and the economy suffered a deep setback.
