On 5 August 2019, the Government of India abolished Article 370 of the Constitution giving special status to Jammu and Kashmir and divided it into the Union Territories of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
Since then, mobile and internet services were discontinued here.
However, after some time, the government first started the landline phone service. In January 2020, 2G internet services were restored in some areas of Jammu and Kashmir Valley, but high speed internet was not reached in most places.
In August last year, one year after the removal of Article 370, 4G Internet service was restored in two districts of the city.
