New Zealand defeated Bangladesh by 66 runs in the first match of the three-match T20 series. Batting first New Zealand scored 210 runs for the loss of three wickets in 20 overs. The Bangladesh side did not start well and the team lost their first wicket with Litton Das scoring 20 runs. The team lost four wickets by reaching 50 runs. Afif Hussain (45) and Mehndi Hasan (34) shared 63 runs for the seventh wicket. Eh Sodhi broke the partnership by sacking Mehndi Hasan.
