SA vs. PAK 2nd ODI: MCC clarifies what the rules say in relation to Fakhar Zaman’s controversial run-out

There has been a lot of controversy about the run-out of Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman. In the second ODI of the three-match series against South Africa on Sunday (April 3), Fakhar lost his world record innings of 193 runs. The hosts won by 17 runs to take the series 1-1. There has been talk on social media about the Fakhar runout as Pakistan should have got five penalty runs on that ball and should Fakhar be out? On this, Marybone Cricket Club (MCC) has now outlined its rules on why Fakhar Zaman was announced.

MCC tweeted two and explained why Fakhar Zaman was summoned. MCC wrote in a tweet, ’41 .5.1, ‘When a fielder deliberately runs out of his action on the batsman, it is wrong to try to stop the ball afterwards. ‘#MCCLaws’, in addition to this tweet, also shared a video of the MCC controversial runout. Following this, the MCC tweeted, ‘The rule becomes clear if the fielder deliberately confuses the batsman. The umpire has the right to decide whether this happened or not. It was then not out and the batsmen took a five-run penalty and +2, and the batsman would decide who would take the next delivery.

Speaking of the match, South Africa batted first and scored 341 for six in 50 overs. Dickock scored 80 while skipper Temba Bauma scored 92. In response, Pakistan were able to score 324 for 9 in 50 overs. Fakhar was run out in the first delivery of the last over of the match. When Fakhar was about to finish the run, Dyak pointed to the nonstriker end, when the throw striker was coming to the end, where Fakhar had to reach. Ranaut got in when Fakhar looked back.
